2024 Closing Ceremonies

Wrap-Up

The atmosphere at the Jackson Gore Round House on Sunday, March 24, was filled with a mix of nostalgia and excitement as students, staff, and families gathered to mark the end of another successful year at Okemo Mountain School. The Closing Ceremony was a bittersweet occasion, honoring the achievements of student-athletes while bidding farewell to graduating seniors.

The ceremony kicked off with a heartfelt speech from Mariel, our Head of School, highlighting the academic and athletic accomplishments of the students throughout the year. Awards were presented to outstanding athletes in various disciplines, recognizing their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship, as well as recognizing those who flourished with academics. We finished the night with the annual reading of Oh, the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss.

Most of our seniors elected to speak at the ceremony. They shared their favorite memories from their time at OMS, and expressed gratitude toward staff members and friends who shaped their journey. We are incredibly proud of the individuals they have become.

Congratulations to the 2024 OMS Seniors!

High School Head of School - Graham Stein

Presented by Mariel Meringolo. “This year’s recipient for the Head of School award is such a natural candidate that I had myself convinced he must have won it before.  However, I scoured records of past award winners and could not find his name!  I have known Graham Stein for quite some time now and had the pleasure of coaching him when he was just a U10 in Dale’s group. Ever since he was a U10, Graham Stein has always been focused and hard-working, setting a wonderful example for his peers in training, always ready to work hard and pay attention to his coaches.  His focus sometimes made him appear very serious, but as he has grown and matured, he has learned to embrace a lighter side of himself as well.  Once Graham began at OMS, I saw that his diligent focus extended to his academics as well.  Graham’s ski racing skills and academic merit are forces with which to reckon, but to round things out Graham is just an incredible community member.  Graham is the “mother hen” to his teammates when travelling, making sure that everyone else is organized and on top of things, planning meals and shopping lists, and making sure tasks are shared among teammates.   He is polite, respectful, and gracious, always kind to the younger student-athletes who look up to him.

It is this exceptional kindness to younger student-athletes that really sealed the deal for me for Graham to win this award.  Injured for almost the whole winter, Graham spent much more time at OMS (as opposed to travelling for races) than I know he imagined he would his senior year.  But nonetheless, Graham came to school with a positive attitude every day and I witnessed first-hand many thoughtful interactions with younger student-athletes, especially aspiring young males who undoubtedly see Graham as a shining example.  His words inspired confidence in them and helped to further the supportive culture that has been so clearly a part of our graduating U18s athletic success.   It has been an absolute privilege to watch Graham grow up here at OMS and is an honor to present him with this award.”
